   The Peddler Restaurant

Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Peddler River x400

The objectives of the renovation and addition to the Peddler Restaurant were to preserve the character of the restaurant’s old log structure while enhancing it with compatible additions, to surround the diner with the authentic character of mountain structures through the use of recycled wormy chestnut siding and logs from old barns, wood sapling furnishings, and wood details, and to literally project the diner over the rushing mountain waters of the river, as one sits in the cantilevered timber dining room, providing a unique dining experience.

An additional benefit of this design is that the new building envelope increased the energy efficiency to high standards of insulation without sacrificing the openness to meaningful views.
